industry and audience power essay

“The internet has given audiences much more power than ever before.” To what extent do you agree with this statement?

Introduction

It is evident that the internet has given consumers much more power than before. The internet gives consumers access to almost everything because you can search it up and access that content. It's giving people lots of ways of communication (skype, whatsapp, etc). Also, the internet has cons as well: giving hackers opportunities (stealing bank details, illegal streaming websites, etc). It has also affected a lot of industries such as music, print, film and television.

Music industry

Now we are entering a new digital world we can access to lots of content. The changes of the music industry due to the internet is you can buy the audio files online, you can stream the music online on apps such as Spotify, soundcloud and audiomack, YouTube and you don’t have to do to stores and buy DVDs and records. The advantage in the music industry due the changes of the internet is: you can access it anywhere (on your phone, tablet, laptop, TV and radio. This would be a good the thing for the producer because the producer is allowing to get more streams and more people are buying there music on apps such as apple music. The disadvantage in the music industry due to the changes of the internet is: people can download the music free due to an illegal website and this means that the producer won’t any money from his music also another disadvantage is that artists songs are being published when not supposed to and usually these are posted on YouTube and the artist won’t make any money from this.

Film and TV Industry

It is easy to access film and TV programme in this day and age of technology (internet). The changes of the film and TV industry due to the internet are you can watch it any were, you can buy it anywhere. The advantages in the film and TV industry due to the changes of the internet are: you buy it online on apps such as YouTube, the iTunes store, Netflix, etc. This would be a good thing for the producers because more and more people join the internet and that is a good thing because more and more people are going to a high chance of buying that specific film or TV programme this means that the film and TV industry will bring in a lot of money. The disadvantages in the film and TV industry due to the changes of the internet is that people don’t want to buy it so the use illegal piracy sites to watch or download that specific film or TV programme and that means that film and TV industry won’t make any money also you have people who sell the film or programme cheaper so that means the film and TV industry won’t make any money and the person selling the bootleg copy of the film or tv programme.

Newspaper Industry

It is easy to access newspaper in this day and age of technology (internet). The changes of the newspaper industry due the internet is you can access it anywhere and anytime you want, you can hear it on the radio on YouTube and television apps on your mobile device. The advantages in the newspaper industry due to the changes of the internet is : you can get breaking news on the spot, you can know what’s happening on the spot and you can be aware of your surroundings just in case something happens and you was close to it and you can see it on the news. The disadvantage of the newspaper industry due to the changes of the internet is that fake news gets around very fast and that is a problem because it is crucial depending what the fake news is about also people are doing. Also people are doing citizen journalism because news company’s won’t be able to pick up the news fast and this means that the news industry are losing popularity and that means people are losing their jobs.
Conclusion
In conclusion I think the internet has given consumers power to access everything (Films,TV,Music,News). It has also given hackers lots of opportunities, fraud and piracy websites.
