Reception theory

1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?
This is the message or belief the producers wants you to receive.
2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?
This when the consumer takes away an opposite message or belief than the producer wants you to go away with.
3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
The 'Harry Brown' trailer position the audience to look at teenagers as a menace to society and that they are involved in gang activity and violence.
4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
Young people might reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading for the trailer because not young people/teenagers are not in gangs or get up to no good.
5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.
The preferred reading for the 'Mcdonalds advert' is that if you eat a Big Mac you will be full and it is an all in one meal, It shows that you are getting your money's worth.

The negotiated reading for the 'Mcdonalds burger Advert' is that this burger can last you long as a meal would because it says that 'A meal disguised as a sandwich'.Also another negotiated reading for the 'Mcdonalds burger advert' is that the burger is mouth watering because how it looks and how it is presented.

The oppositional reading of the 'Mcdonalds burger advert' is that is unhealthy and it is bad for because the burger is same as an entire meal which unhealthy and aslso if you was to buy a big-mac at Mcdonalds it wouldn't come as you saw in the advert and this has been proven, It says that it is as it looks but it is full of oil and its really bad for you.
